Lettieri, described as a short, warthog type of character who was Charlie's height but twice as wide, was riding high on the success of THE GODFATHER and apparently had rather severe booze and drug problems.

Lettieri had a role in the 1958 Perry Mason episode "The Case of the Fugitive Nurse," playing Arthur Strome but credited with the name Anthony Lettier. Italian-American actor Al Lettieri also dabbled in playwrighting and directing during his years on stage. In films, Lettieri was generally typecast in blunt, gangsterish roles.
